South Branch Career and Technical Center is proud to announce our  'Student Spotlight' for August, James Wimer.  James is a senior at Pendleton County High School and the son of Thelma Wolfe.  As a second year Carpentry student, James has worked on many projects, but his favorite project was a cross he made to commemorate his grandmother.   James planned and routed the wood for this cross and then enlisted some help from a classmate to add the name and year to this creation.  It was an amazing project, one which we will not soon forget.  When James is not busy in the Carpentry shop, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and learning to play the guitar. We are pleased to list James as one our students!

Dakota Parsons, son of Melina and Randy Parsons, holds the September “Student Spotlight” title at South Branch Career and Technical Center.  Dakota is an 11^th grade student at Petersburg High School who is also enrolled in the Automotive program at SBCTC.  Dakota holds the simulated workplace role of ‘R.O.I. Manager’, which involves documenting automotive repair projects and filing this information in the South Branch Auto E.R.’s company records.  While Dakota’s performance in Automotive class is to be commended, he is probably known best for his outstanding skill in archery.  Mr. Parsons has competed on the PHS archery team at the state, national, and world levels.  We are proud of Dakota and all of his accomplishments, whether they be in the Career and Technical Education classroom or on the archery range. Thank you, Dakota, for your contributions to South Branch Career and Technical Center.

This month, South Branch Career and Technical Center staff have selected Lena Grillo as our “Spotlight Student”.   Lena is a junior at East Hardy High School who is participating in the Therapeutic Services program at SBCTC.  She is a model student and a natural leader in her program and demonstrates this ability in her role as vice-president of HOSA, the Future Health Professionals organization. In addition to serving as vice-president, Lena also played a key role in the recent blood drive sponsored by the Therapeutic Service classes at SBCTC.  She managed a roster of students and teachers who signed up to provide blood donations and ensured that each student or staff member had obtained the correct paperwork and identification before proceeding to the donation facility.  Due to the hard work of Lena and all the students in the Therapeutic Services program, 31 units of blood were secured that day. In the future, Lena plans to continue her education to become a fully-licensed Registered Nurse.  We are certain that Lena will have a wonderful impact in the field of medicine.  Thank you, Lena, for making our school a great place to work and learn!
